
About the Authors:
Mike Swain is synonymous with Judo and grappling worldwide. Swain
made history in 1987 by becoming the first male from the Western hemsphere to
win a World Championship. In addition, Mike has won medals in all major
international tournaments: the Olympics, World Championships, and Pan American
Games. He is a four-time Olympian, five time World Team member, and was the
1996 U.S. Olympic Judo coach at the Atlanta Games. His knowledge of Judo and
grappling techniques is unsurpassed, making of him one of the most sought-after
submission teachers in the world.

Chuck Jefferson, with multiple national championships and gold medals
at most major tournaments in the Western hemisphere -including 2 at
the Pan American Championships- is one of the top Judo competitors in
the United States. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist
(CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and has
trained extensively in Japan, Europe, and the former USSR. He currently
spends his time coaching and training with the Judo team at San Jose
State University.
